Verbatim Field Troubleshooting Guide.
VERBATIM FIELD TROUBLESHOOTING GUIDE
LOCKED UP
- Check Configuration: Verify the Verbatim configuration using the serial number.
- Option Cards: If option cards are installed incorrectly, the system may lock up.
- Remove the expansion card and inspect the pins for bending.
- Align the pins carefully with the socket on the main board and ensure all pins are fully seated with none exposed.
- Repeat this process for all option cards.
- Daughter Card Note: The bottom slot on the daughter card is not buffered—use only the top three slots.
- Battery: Verify the lithium battery is above 3 volts.
- Factory Reset: Perform a JB-3 reset if needed.
NO POWER
- Voltage Type: Check the serial number to determine voltage type:
- 12V DC: Serial numbers above V26842 (dated 09/28/2016) are 12V DC.
- 120V AC: Earlier units may use 120V AC.
- Input Voltage: Verify correct input voltage (12V DC or 120V AC).
- Fuse Check:
- For 120V AC models, measure live and neutral—it should read around 100 ohms, indicating power reaching the transformer.
NOT GOING INTO ALARM
- Check Configuration: Verify the serial number for the correct setup.
- 8-Channel Verbatim:
- Do not use contacts 1-4 on the bottom left of the main board.
- Use the common terminals (C C C C).
- All alarm contacts should be connected to the expansion card plugged into the center of the main board.
ALARM CONDITIONS CHECK:
- Verify alarm conditions are properly set for each channel.
- Measure voltage on dry contacts:
- Open: 5V DC
- Closed: 0V DC
- Verbatim supplies 5V DC on the contact; ensure sensors are dry.
NOT CALLING OUT ON ALARM:
- Phone Line Type: Confirm the phone line is an analog copper POTS line.
- Dial Out Test: Press the Dial Out button; you should hear a dial tone.
- Voltage Check: Verify 50V DC on the phone line.
- No Voltage:
- Disconnect the tip and ring wires from Verbatim to rule out a short in its phone circuit.
- Check voltage again.
- Line Test: Disconnect Verbatim and test the line with a handheld phone.
WILL NOT PICK UP ON INCOMING CALLS:
- Voltage Check: Verify 50V DC on the tip and ring.
- K1 Relay: Confirm the K1 relay is present and properly installed (indent facing upward).
- Line Test: Disconnect Verbatim, plug in a regular phone, and call to confirm the line rings.
POWER FAILURE ALARM NOT WORKING:
- 6V Battery Check:
- Test the battery under load.
- Disconnect AC power and ensure voltage is at least 6.3V.
- Battery Leads:
- Measure red and black leads with the battery disconnected.
- Voltage should read approximately 6.8V.
DISARMING ITSELF / CALLING OUT WITHOUT ALARMS / OTHER ISSUES:
- Possible Memory Corruption:
- Replace the lithium battery.
- Perform a JB-3 factory reset.
- When replacing the battery, gently lift it to avoid bending the clip, ensuring proper contact.
COMMON PROGRAMMING QUESTIONS:
- Press PROGRAM to enter programming mode.
- Complete all programming steps before pressing NORM to return to normal mode.
HOW TO CHANGE PHONE NUMBERS:
- 701 ENTER: Displays the first stored phone number.
- 701 + New Number + ENTER: Overwrites the old number with the new one.

- 702 ENTER: Displays the second phone number.
- Continue with 703 (third), 704 (fourth), and so on.
HOW TO RECORD MESSAGES:
- Station ID: Press 100 ENTER. Wait for the voice prompt.
- Hold the Record button and speak clearly into the microphone near the top of the unit.
- Release the Record button to hear the playback.
- Channel Messages:
- 101 ENTER: Record alarm message for Channel 1.
- 102 ENTER: Record alarm message for Channel 2.
- Continue for each channel as needed.
