Key takeaways
- Owning the monitoring program gives an operator clearer equipment status and history than outsourcing it.
- Easy manuals and a responsive support team made an in-house program possible without extra labor.
- Spare units can become a service: EDP rents dialers to clients while their own equipment is maintained.
The challenge
Outsourced monitoring was expensive and opaque
EDP had a RACO unit at every site, but a third party maintained them. That made the day to day simple and expensive, left the dialers poorly managed and gave EDP little control over programming.
The solution
A company-wide RACO program, run in-house
Doug Woellner learned the units from RACO’s manuals, then EDP built a company-wide program for its RACO units. With so many units to manage, EDP and RACO set up a line of communication to keep the AlarmAgents and Verbatims in the field.
RACO made this possible because they’re easy to work with. They have a great service center, and things began to flow smoothly after building a relationship.
The results
Better, faster, cheaper service and a new line of business
Labor hours did not rise. EDP keeps more data on its equipment and now rents spare dialers to clients while their own units are being maintained. When Woellner suggested a change to AlarmAgent, RACO built it into future units.
